What do you think they would choose to eat and be capable of catching. Just for fun!

Mine would be scavengers of garbage in all their free time bol.. But for a hunt, I say they would rather have deer! But I don't think they could catch one unless it were injured or they had a lot more dogs helping them! They could catch rabbit though.

Moira

Is that a- chicken foot?- Yummy!!

Moira was 'in the wild'. I don't think she got much to eat. She weighed 13.2 pounds instead of her current 32.5 pounds. Maybe she was not a good hunter. She is certainly fast enough now, but she is also well fed.

Oh! I see what you mean. Well, I think their favorite is rabbit - at least that was their favorite when they were on Nature's Variety raw, but they haven't had any rabbit for several months now, no since I found out the rabbit in the NV raw was sourced in China.

So far I've bought all of the dogs' "real" raw food at one of two grocery stores and a small butcher shop, but I'd like to make to Whole Foods this week and see if I can find some more exotic meats, preferably free range/organic, etc. Rabbit, bison, etc. I think I once saw some ostrich meat in Whole Foods? It will be fun to see what's what.

But I think the problem they'd run into is that neither one of them have much prey drive to speak of. A rabbit would basically have to jump into their mouths. smile

Spuds

Happy Turkey- Day!!

Barked: Sun Nov 1, '09 9:05pm PST
Spuds would starve, all 4 bunnies he has caught have jumped right out of his mouth. And no one to cut up his food for him........

Trash cans scare him, so out of luck there too......

He would probably be able to find some road kill deer he would love....

Kiona and Luka would be just fine, they are hunters through and through! Squirrels, bunnies, birds, lizards, mice, voles, etc. - they would have a veritable smorgasbord, especially considering they would not have those pesky tags making noise!

Indy would be SOL, I'm afraid... not a huntin' bone in his body!! big laugh

Monty

I think I'm a- king among dogs

Walter would prefer whatever crawls into his mouth and dies of its own volition. I think Monty would give anything moving a good chase, but I don't think he could catch a thing! I haven't noticed a preference for any particular meat, just that they aren't fond of fish.

Farley

Natural-born- watchdog!

Farley has a really high prey drive. He'll go after anything that moves. He is such a rustic boy and likes nothing better than running free out in the wild bush. He pays really close attention to any sounds and he is very alert. When he finds something like a squirrel, (he is beyond obsessed with squirrels) he will stand there and point at it, watching its every move until it chatters at him and runs away. Sometimes I wonder if I should have trained him to be a hunting dog! I am pretty sure he'd have no problem taking down a rabbit, or a squirrel, if he could darn well catch one! Bol.

Well, my crew would go after just about anything. Quinn and Winnie are bigtime bunnies and squirrel hunters. Cinders LOVES bugs. Her favourites are flying ones ~ flies, moths, butterflies, ladybirds.

Alfie is quite lazy unless the prey is closeby then he'll chase BUT he is a bigtime scrounger. He scoungers on the floor for any titbit.. Flipps is plain lazy, but she does like bread and will fight for it. I throw bread etc out for the birds and her lil face drops when I tell her NO!

They def wont starve though as they have got the bush baby brown eyes that plead to be feed and many a time I've seen them working their magic on people. Doing the *we never get feed look* usually happens when the people have icecream/ sweets etchappy dance
