Are Zukes Z Ridge dental bones worth buying?

We brush our teeth over here, but saw these today and wondered if they are worth a try?

I prefer RMBs (raw meaty bones). They're cheaper. Raw chicken bones are some of the safest you can feed. (No cooked bones!) Just be sure to supervise.

They aren't bad. But agreed, I prefer to give bully sticks/bones/rmb's instead of pseudo-bones. But, with Jasper's allergies, I guess your selection for natural chews is pretty limited. I do recommend the Z-ridge bones over greenies 'cause they're made with potato and there's no animal protein so they should be okay for Jasper. Just a heads up, I gave Farley a cranberry z-ridge bone last year, the largest size. He ate the whole thing in 5 minutes and was pooping bright red for the next 2 days from the cranberry.

Heywave

Thanks for the comments!

We have done RMBs in the past- my only concern is the mess and the butcher couldn't cut the beef knuckle up really small for us. Chicken bones sound like a good idea- we will have to try some. We have a small child in the house and when I have given Jasper some bones with a little meat on them he has taken them in the back yard-rolled them in dirt and hid them for later...then I find them on the couch! YUCK!

Farley- we are now discovering the allergies we were sure were food related were most likely environmental red face. We adopted Jasper in late spring so all we had to go by was his allergic symptoms over the spring/summer- now that we are in fall, Jasper hardly ever itches or scratches...we have fed him lamb, bison, fish, turkey and now chicken with no reaction so far in the past 2 months.cheer I am still not sure about beef. Who would've thought. shrug

Hmm, cranberry colored poops! laugh out loud

Beef bones aren't really edible anyway, so it's good that the butcher didn't cut them small enough. Chicken, rabbit, quail, and fish would make good RMBs for Jas.

A whole cornish hen...perfect to let him chew on for a while (then take it away and let him chew on it again the next day).

Frozen sardines or mackerel are awesome snacks too.

Hey Sedona wave

Thanks for the info. The cornish hens sound perfect. I wish Jasper liked rabbit- but he doesn't like it- so maybe we will do some chicken, game hen and try some little fishies. big grin

I dare not buy Meko a cornish hen. It will go bad before she even finishes it. She has a really small mouth and eating things takes FOREVER.
