when sumo had diarrhea (his was from drontal de-wormer) that was
the only time he pooped in his crate.
and it was AWFUL! i had to do the whole
crate/puppy cleaning thing as well.
since he isn't acting like he is in pain or anything-
maybe you can give him some pumpkin and see
if that firms things up for him while
you await the results from the vet?
that could prevent the accidents and the
cleaning, at the very least.

feel better soon!

Where is Denver's crate? If it is not already, I would suggest moving it closer to your bed so that when he's awake and moving around during the night, you can hear him and take him outside to go to the bathroom. No dog likes to have to poop in a confined area and then lay in it all night. Dogs are naturally very clean animals, so this goes against all they know. Worse case scenario, you'll teach your dog that it's not a big deal to pee/poop and lay in it, which will undermine all of your crate training thus far.

His crate is right next to my bed. 2 nights ago I did indeed wake up at 3am when I heard him moving around, and took him outside, where he pooped (or squirted) and peed. By 6am, he had pooped his crate (either he wasn't noisy about it or there's a limit to how many times I'll wake up just from movement noise).

It wasn't a case of me not taking him out enough, it was him having awful runs and I guess not being able to hold it in cause his tummy hurt.

Any chance Denver had puppy shots, heart worm meds, flea and tick meds recently? The first time I gave Henry heart worm meds he had a TERRIBLE diarrhea for about a week and 1/2. My vet said some dogs react that way to shots and treatments.

He hasn't had any for a couple weeks. Denver did throw up after one of his shots/de-wormings, but hasn't reacted poorly since.

Poops are starting to get a little more solid. It's been a week since he's had a solid poop, but progress is progress.

You can try Plain Pumpkin Filing, the kind you use for Pies, but make sure it is plain and not like Cinnamon or spiced. Just put a tablespoon or so in his food. It Will help solid up the Poo.
