It's pretty normal. Like having a baby in the house.
I suspect he is trying to tell you he pooed and needs help.
I usually set the alarm for the hour before and get up to take the pup outside. It's either that or if your yard is fenced you can install a door for him in the back door.
Or use a crate for the night.

Expect this to go on til you can house train him and that he is more mature.
He is very young, takes time, love, patience and repetitions.
If your kids are old enough they can help take turns letting him out. Have each child and you take certain days of the week to get up make a written schedule, put M&Tues. one childs day, then W&Thur. your day ect....
That way everyone is doing the right thing and it is not on one person. I am sure the dog is for everyone's enjoyment. Will be a good way to teach children responsiblity and dog skills.

Welcome to the world of dog ownership! Puppies wake up early and puppies demand a lot of attention. I would use a crate, at least that way you have some hope of his becoming housebroken. If he's allowed free range of the kitchen and hallway, he is not going to magically housebreak himself, he is learning that it's okay to go where ever and when ever he wants to. He needs someone watching him all the time unless he's secure in his crate, then he needs someone to take him outside to do his business. A puppy raised without boundaries and attention will be a wild adult. Those are two difficult breeds, if he is actually a greyhound/saluki mix. I would certainly get him enrolled in a puppy training class ASAP, and start working more with the housebreaking. Good luck!
